Scholarships
for Incoming Students
Incoming Freshman and Transfer Student Scholarships
Scholarship amounts vary from year to year but are generally between $200
and $1000 each. To qualify you must be a new student intending to enroll
as an art major for the following fall. These scholarships are awarded
on the basis of artistic achievement. You may also apply for academic
scholarships which have different requirements and application dates
through the Financial Aid Office.
Awards
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of portfolios submitted by prospective
students. A slide or cd portfolio of ten images, each showing a different
work must be submitted by each applicant. At least three of the images
must be of drawings and at least one of the images must be of a three-dimensional
work. Each image must be labeled with the following information: your
name, medium and size. Contact the chair of the Department of Art for
exceptions to the guidelines.
Portfolio Guidelines
It is to your benefit to present your work with the best slides possible.
Ask your art teacher for suggestions on photographing your art.

With your portfolio, include a cover letter stating the high school you
attended and your status as a new freshman or transfer student and include
a statement of your interest and goals in art. If you aspire to be an
art teacher, specify whether you plan to teach art at the secondary school
level only or at both the elementary and secondary school levels. Remember
to include a return address on all of your materials.
