The work continues
While construction equipment has moved off-site and Emporia State makes itself home in a renovated Memorial Union, fund-raising work continues to support the project. The Foundation has a goal to raise an additional $1.7 million in gifts to name a number of special locations throughout the building.
The most lucrative of them—from a tax standpoint, at least—are selected room naming opportunities that will generate a 50 percent Kansas income tax credit for donations received by the end of December, 2012.
“Put simply, every dollar you contribute results in a 50-cent reduction in your state tax bill,” explained Tim Wright, a certified public accountant with Pool & Wright, Chartered, Emporia.
The tax credit allocation will be applied to several areas of the Memorial Union, including the Admissions office and reception atrium, the Office of International Education and the Career Services office. Donors may designate their contributions to name specific spaces in those areas, such as offices or conference rooms.
For more information about tax credit-eligible space in the Memorial Union, or to make a gift to the renovation effort, contact the ESU Foundation at 620-341-5440.
Gifts from numerous donors have already made it possible to name several Memorial Union office and conference spaces:
