Living with a Roommate
Communication is key! - When you get your assignment letter, call your roommate. Contact information is included in that letter.
Set Boundaries - Talk to your roommate(s) about things you like and dislike. Get to know each other and set your boundaries with your living space.
Conflict Resolution - Talk to each other!! Do not let conflict sit, it only gets worse. Our staff in the buildings (RA’s) are also there to help in conflict resolution.
Avoid living with best friends - Living with a best friend from high school may seem like a good idea, but often those friendships go sour once you live together. Let our staff help you out and match you with a roommate with similar interests.
Safety, Security, & Technology in Residence Halls
All buildings have up-to-date and inspected fire alarm and/or sprinkler systems
Room Keys - Locking your room door is the single-best way to ensure the safety of yourself and your property. Carry your keys with you at all times!!
Insurance for Student Possessions - Most home owner’s insurance policies will cover student’s possession while they are in college, but some don’t. Check your insurance policies for coverage, and if they do not cover a student’s possessions we strongly recommend renters insurance for their belongings.
All rooms have ethernet connections which connect a personal computer to the internet and ESU’s technology resources. North & South Towers rooms have wireless connectivity in the common areas and ethernet connection in rooms.
Check this website for personal computer compatibility with ESU’s system: http://techsite.emporia.edu
