ESU Summer Institute for AVID students 2013

July 30-31, 2013 (application deadline: May 1, 2013)

  Originally designed with AVID teachers at Olathe North High School, the ESU Summer Institute is open to all AVID students who will be in grades 9-12 for the upcoming fall.  Over 250 AVID students and teachers have participated in the ESU Summer Institute already!  Here’s what AVID participants had to say:

Cost
The cost to attend the AVID Summer Institute is $25.00 per student.  This fee covers all meals, lodging and supplies during the program.  Sponsors attend at no charge.  Schools are responsible for coordinating and/or providing transportation to and from the program. 

AVID Sponsor
Emporia State requires at least one AVID sponsor(s) to participate in the program and stay overnight in the residence halls with their AVID students.  Depending on the size of the student group, sponsorship is required as outlined below:

                1-10 students    1 AVID sponsor
                11-20 students  2 AVID sponsors
                21-30 students  3 AVID sponsors
                31-40 students  4 AVID sponsors, etc.

*Sponsors must be AVID teachers or experienced and responsible college students who are AVID tutors with your program

Scholarships
The ESU/AVID scholarship is a one-time, nonrenewable award for AVID students who have participated in the AVID Summer Institute and/or enroll at ESU as freshman.  The scholarship will be awarded to AVID students upon their matriculation to ESU immediately following high school graduation.  The scholarship is not available to AVID students who transfer to ESU following enrollment at another institution.  The AVID scholarship program includes two levels of support.

$1000 Level
Criteria: 
        ●AVID student
        ●Participate in the ESU/AVID Summer Institute immediately following your
           junior year in high school
        ●Enroll at ESU as first time freshmen immediately following high school graduation
$500 Level
Criteria: 
       ●AVID student
       ●Enroll at ESU as first time freshmen immediately following high school graduation

Cancellation Policy
In order to receive a full refund of the registration fee, participants need to email June Coleman, Program Coordinator, (jcoleman@emporia.edu), one full week prior the start of the program. Refunds will not be issued if participants do not cancel within this time frame.
