Michael Lang, Admissions Counselor

My name is Michael Lang. I am originally from Michigan Valley, KS and went to Pomona High School. I graduated from Emporia State in 2005 with a B.F.A. in Communication and a concentration in Public Relations. After graduation, the university and community felt they could not continue to function if I were not here. In July of 2005 I began working in the Admissions Office and recently purchased my first house in Emporia, saving the town the heartbreak and sadness of my leaving! GO HORNETS!!

My official title at ESU is: Admissions counselor

Yes, I did things on campus! I was involved in: the Union Activities Council, Phi Theta Kappa, Lambda Pi Eta, Liberal Publications Club and Intramural Sports

I chose Emporia State because: it was a nice size.  I was coming from a pretty small school and I was intimidated by other campuses I visited.  I stepped on campus and automatically felt a sense of belonging.

If you’re on campus, you’ve just got to see: Deck #1 in the library.  It houses all of the books about Bigfoot and UFO's!

My top three CD’s of all time are (in order):
1. Blue October: Consent to Treatment
2. Toadies : Rubberneck
3. The Electric Six:  FIRE!

New students should never leave home without: Shoes: Very useful in the winter all of you flip-flop wearers

My favorite class at ESU was: Small Group Communication:  All of my friends were in it and the professor was amazing.  Also, there was a day where we had a project to see who could build the tallest tower and our group WON!!!!

In my spare time, I like to:
Go to Blue October concerts,  play paper, rock, scissors.  BBQ with my friends and grow beards

As I walked across the stage at graduation, I thought to myself: DON'T TRIP!

The quote I love the most is: “Give me a chance to shine and I'm gonna blind the world, take a stand and be the voice of those who cannot be heard.”  ~ The Transplants

At work, the phrase I hear most is: get back to work!

If you had never read this, you wouldn't know that I: never passed the first level of swim lessons.

The BEST part about my job is: meeting students who are genuinely excited about attending Emporia State!
