2008 NEW YORK Theatre Tour

March 17-23, 2008

Emporia State University Theatre announces its New York Theatre Tour. Running from Monday, March 17 to Sunday, March 23, 2008, the tour will be led by Jim and Lindy Bartruff. It provides an opportunity for theatergoers of all ages to enjoy live, professional theatre for seven days and six night in New York City. The tour originates in Emporia, KS. But, through arrangements with your travel professional departures from other cities can be arranged. We'll provide information about ground transfers between the airport and the hotel when you join the tour.

The cost of the ground portion of the tour will be $1149 per person for quad rooms and $1409 per person for twin rooms. Triple and single room accommodations can also be arranged. The average rate for a NYC hotel room for $205 a night according the USA Today. By buying as a group, we are able to save money on the cost of our accommodations, theatre tickets and other events. The ground portion of the tour includes the following:

Hotel accommodations at the Wellington Hotel around the corner from Carnegie Hall.
An orientation seminar--Welcome to New York!
Theatre tickets to four productions selected from the best of Broadway and Off-Broadway.
A Backstage on Broadway seminar with a Broadway star.
A one-day METROCARD good for unlimited subway and bus transportation.
Guided escort to site of World Trade Center.
Hotel taxes on all rooms.
Hotel baggage handling upon arrival and departure.

THEATRE TICKETS. The cost of theatre tickets to four productions is included in the quoted price. Tickets are always subject to availability. Our group choices will be selected from among the following:

A Catered Affair. A new musical starring Faith Prince, Tom Wopat and Harvey Fierstein.
The Farnsworth Invention. The new play about the invention of television by Aaron Sorkin (Sports Night, West Wing).
November. The new David Mamet comedy starring Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf (Roseanne).
Is He Dead? A recently discovered new play by Mark Twain starring Norbert Leo Butz (Wicked, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels).
Frankenstein. A new off-Broadway musical starring Hunter Foster (Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors).
Young Frankenstein. The new Mel Brooks musical. (We're trying, but this is a tough ticket to get.)
Mary Poppins. Based on the Disney film and co-produced with Cameron Mackintosh.
Spring Awakening. A groundbreaking new musical. Tony Winner for Best Musical, 2007.
Xanadu. A new roller-skating musical based on the 1980 film.
Legally Blonde. The Broadway version of the popular film comedy.
The Little Mermaid. Disney's latest based on the animated feature.
Curtains. The backstage musical featuring the last score by Kander and Ebb. Tony Award winner for David Hyde Pierce.

AIR TRAVEL TO NEW YORK. You need to book air travel on your own. Current airfares range widely, depending upon the city of origin, bonus programs, etc. We recommend that you contact your local travel agent . Websites such as Travelocity, Orbitz and Yahoo Travel are also recommended. The sooner you book your flight, the better the fare. We'll provide you with information about ground transfers between the airport and the hotel when you join the tour. Current airfares between Kansas City and New York are between $200 and $400. There are also great rates out of Minneapolis and other cities in our region.

HOUSING. Centrally located in Midtown Manhattan, the Wellington Hotel is a few steps to Carnegie Hall, City Center, Central Park and Broadway, New York's celebrated Theatre District. Fifth Avenue Shopping, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, Times Square, MoMA and the Museum of Radio and Television are within easy walking distance. You'll be afforded ample free time during your week in New York to tour the sights, shop, attend sporting events or see other shows. We have reserved space at the hotel in various accommodations. Total cost per person is as follows: $1149 Quad room; $1369 Triple room; $1409 Double room; and $1849 for a Single room.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE. A deposit of $300 must accompany your reservation. This deposit is due February 1, 2008. The balance is due March 7, 2008. Make all checks payable to ESU THEATRE. Cancellations received on or before January 31, 2008, will receive a refund of moneys paid less a $50 cancellation fee. Thirty days prior to travel, there can be NO cancellations. Once theatre tickets are purchased, they are never refundable.
