...understand the role of each collaborator in a theatre production.
...take an active role in an ESU Theatre production onstage or on a crew.
...develop critical thinking skills by analyzing ESU Theatre performances.
...begin a process of documenting your academic work at ESU.
Your attendance in class, in rehearsals and in the shops is the key to your success. We believe the best way to learn the craft f the theatre is by doing theatre. You are expected to arrive early and be ready for the task at hand. An excused absence must be arranged in advance. If you must be late or absent it is your responsibility to notify the instructor, shop manager or stage manager before the scheduled session begins. The instructor of shop manager will arrange makeup work.
| Production assignments All students will be given one production or performance assignment from either Something's Afoot (October 23-26) or Rabbit Hole (December 3-6) |
Grading Grading for the course will be Pass/Fail. You must satisfy all of the course requirements. |

Course requirements 1. Regular attendance. You may miss only two class sessions. |
Course GuidelinesYour production or performance assignment will require a minimum of 58 hours outside of the scheduled class session. Shops are usually open Monday through Friday from 2-5 p.m. Rehearsal periods are usually 5-6 evenings per week from 7-10 p.m. Some weekend hours will be required for work calls, tech and dress rehearsals and performances. |
| Faculty Initiated Student Withdrawl Procedure Students should be aware that your instructor follows the university’s policy of faculty-initiated student withdrawal. It reads as follows: “If a student’s absencesfrom class or disruptive behavior become detrimental to the student’s progress or that of other students in the class, the faculty member shall attempt to contact the student in writing about withdrawing from the class and shall seek the aid of the office of Vice President of Student Affairs to help insure contacting the Student. The Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs shall provide the student information about the existing appeals procedures. Upon receiving a written report from the faculty member, the Vice President of Student Affairs may initiate a student withdrawal from the class. None of the above implies or states that faculty members are required to initiate the student withdrawals for excessive absence. [Policy and Procedures Manual 43.11] |
How to Succeed in the Classroom You should know that the college classroom is an amazing place. But that is only true if you are present and actively engaged. Please be prompt. Be prepared. Consult the syllabus regularly. Stay awake in class. Pay attention. Participate in class. Complete your work on time. Respect your classmates, your instructor and--in so doing--yourself. Don’t let your dog near your homework. Plan ahead. You have made a sizable investment in your education, it is up to you to get your money’s worth. |
